Writing Journey Invitation: Write My Map

The writing journey is going to be very different this year…

If you’ve been trying to gain perspective and really ground yourself in who you are right now and how that impacts how you show up in the world, this journey is for you too.

This year I will be opening up about some of the techniques and practices that I engage in every year as I hold myself accountable and set the course for next year. With so many thoughts and questions swirling around in my mind, it is time to ask myself the hard questions. And I invite you to join me in these practices.

What kind of world would we live in if we all took a moment to calm the noise, and check in with how we’ve actually been living?

What if we showed up in our lives connected and aligned to our personal missions?

What would we release, destroy or build, create or curate?

What would we change, or keep the same?

This year, I will be focusing the writing journey on Writing My Map. A process of refining personal mission, reconnecting with what it means to be aligned to personal missions, taking time to reflect on the last year and set intentions for the year ahead.

It’s going to require some tough honesty, willingness to explore things that might be scary or infuriating, self accountability, and persistence. And it will be worth it.

Are you ready?

What you need to know:

The live version of this years writing journey officially begins Friday November 8th 2024, and will close Friday February 28, 2025.

You do not have to start your writing on November 8th, and you do not have to be done writing on February 28th. You will have access to the prompts and exercises throughout the time, and you can fit them into the rhythm of your life in whatever way feels best to you. I will make some suggestions (for example to begin with, 1 hour a week spread across several days), but the timeframe is really going to be up to you this year.

Prompts and resources will be available by visiting my website (rachelpointer.com) throughout, however the full live version will be available in a virtual classroom again this year. The classroom will open beginning November 8th 2024, I’ll keep adding folks to it until December 2nd 2024. This is where all the information will be posted, and you can connect with others about your journey if you choose to do so.

As always, there will be no financial obligation for the live version of the writing journey. The journey will be adapted for publication and purchase in March, 2025.

You will be offered opportunity to practice setting aside time and writing during that time, pausing and reflecting as you learn and grow. In addition to the weekly prompts and notes of encouragement, there will be other opportunities to stretch, connect, and engage throughout this process. What you will need:

  • You will need access to internet and email to participate while the journey is live so you can access the virtual classroom. A Gmail account tends to work best. Introductions, prompts, connection opportunities, and other resources will be posted in the virtual classroom.
  • You will need something to write with, or something to write on. You get to choose whether you write in an app on your phone, a digital notebook, your blog (public or private), a notebook, on piles of old napkins, or whatever makes the most sense for you.
  • You get to pick the time of day that works best for you to write, and you get to put your pen to paper (or hands to keyboard, or voice to recorder), and write.
  • You do not have to share anything you’re writing with anyone unless you want to, so you can say whatever you want in your writing time.
